10 Important Winter Driving Tips
-
Allow more time for your journey
-
Clear all windows of snow & ice on the outside & de-misted on the inside. To use air con or not is the question.. Yes is the answer!
-
Top up your screen wash and add some winter additive
-
Ensure your tyres are in good condition and inflated to the recommended pressure!
-
Safety Prep! - Check your battery, your spare tyre, throw in some jumper cables and whilst you’re at it throw in a bag of salt (seriously – it acts as a de-iceer on icy roads and the salt dissolves into the liquid water in the ice and lowers its freezing point).
-
Get a vehicle winter maintenance check-up. Don’t wait - check your battery, belts, hoses, radiator, lights, brakes, heater/defroster and wipers
-
Seems like an obvious but one to note: Keep an ice scraper/snow brush in your car at all times
-
Here’s a 2-for-1. Keep a flashlight and/or a flare in your car. As well as a first aid kit. Always best to be prepared
-
Stay topped up on fuel - ideally at least half full. You don’t want to run out in the dark cold winter
-
With your actual driving - travel, steer and brake more slowly than usual
