10 Important Winter Driving Tips

Ford car drifting through snow

  1. Allow more time for your journey

  2. Clear all windows of snow & ice on the outside & de-misted on the inside. To use air con or not is the question.. Yes is the answer!

  3. Top up your screen wash and add some winter additive

  4. Ensure your tyres are in good condition and inflated to the recommended pressure!

  5. Safety Prep! - Check your battery, your spare tyre, throw in some jumper cables and whilst you’re at it throw in a bag of salt (seriously – it acts as a de-iceer on icy roads and the salt dissolves into the liquid water in the ice and lowers its freezing point).

  1. Get a vehicle winter maintenance check-up. Don’t wait - check your battery, belts, hoses, radiator, lights, brakes, heater/defroster and wipers

  2. Seems like an obvious but one to note: Keep an ice scraper/snow brush in your car at all times

  3. Here’s a 2-for-1. Keep a flashlight and/or a flare in your car. As well as a first aid kit. Always best to be prepared

  4. Stay topped up on fuel - ideally at least half full. You don’t want to run out in the dark cold winter

  5. With your actual driving - travel, steer and brake more slowly than usual
