Mercedes GLA 2020 Going Electric
Mercedes is taking electric vehicles seriously with some real investment so we can expect some exciting things to follow. Mercedes’ overall corporate strategy for its future mobility products is now called CASE, which stands for “Connected, Autonomous, Shared & Services and Electric Drive.” The end result of all this plug-in drive work is, according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, that electric cars will make up between 15 percent and 25 percent of the company’s sales by 2025.
The GLA will comes as an all-electric version in 2020. The batteries disappear under the floor and thanks to a range of around 400 kilometers Mercedes wants to rival the Tesla Model III.
Mercedes will be developing its own electric motors in house saying they’ll range from 75 to 400 kw of output.
It also plans to offer both plug-in and inductive charging on its all-electric vehicles, according to Autobild.
Except for the smallest GLA-based electric model, the battery-electric vehicles will all use underpinnings known to insiders as the MEA (Modular Electric Architecture).
