Tesla 90D 2017 – An electric beaut
After years of only software updates, Tesla finally updates the looks of the Model S sedan and it’s gorgeous!
The 2017 Tesla Model S goes farther and charges faster, making further advancements against the internal-combustion engine’s biggest advantages. But there are aesthetic distinctions for 2017 as well. The functionless grille – electric vehicles don’t have radiators – from the previous Model S is gone, matching the styling of the Model X.
Tesla also claims increased driving range for the 90D and P90D models but doesn’t cite any mechanical changes that account for the improved numbers. The 90D, with its 90-kWh battery, improves from 270 miles to 294 miles on a full charge, while the P90D sees range go from 253 miles to 270 miles.
Standard features include a 17-inch touch screen with Bluetooth and navigation, plus a rearview camera. Also included are sonar sensors, blind spot warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning, among other things. Unique options include rear-facing seats under the rear hatch, a high-amperage charger upgrade, a high-fidelity sound system, smart air suspension, and the HEPA air filtration system, which includes what Tesla refers to as its Bioweapon Defense Mode.
Another significant mechanical change is the newly standard 48-amp onboard charger that replaces the previous model’s 40-amp charger. Tesla says it enables quicker charging than before when connected to a 240-volt NEMA 14-50 power outlet or to a Tesla Wall Connector.
